I live in the Augusta area, but my girlfriend is the president of her college's spectrum group in Columbia, SC, so I had the opportunity of participating in the Day of Silence with many students, faculty, and staff there. It was difficult to be silent for the day, but I managed to do it and felt good about making a stand against anti LGBT behavior. I hope that if more and more people continue to raise awareness about this issue, we will start to see a significant decline in the number of LGBT students who face bullying and harassment.
